What does SSL mean?

SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) is an encrypting protocol that was developed to secure communication between two endpoints (host and server) over the internet. This kind of security protocols have become necessary since the rapid growth of the internet in the late 90’s.

Nowadays, more and more on-line services require protection to avoid unauthorised users to access the sent and received data.

The SSL protocol means the creation of a layer that constitutes a secure channel for the data to be transferred safely in an encrypted format between the host and the server, until the connection is terminated.
